Instructions
Preparing the Beef Patties
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and Dijon mustard (if using). Mix gently with your hands until just combined.Tip: Avoid over-mixing to keep the patties tender.
- Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 3/4-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
Cooking the Beef Patties
- Heat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.Tip: If you don’t have a grill, you can cook the patties in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.Tip: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C) for well-done burgers.
Assembling the Burgers
- Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly browned.
- Spread ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on the bottom bun.
- Place the cooked patty on the bun, then top with lettuce, tomato slices, red onion slices, and pickles.
- Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
Tips and Tricks
Choosing the Right Ground Beef
For juicy and flavorful burgers, use ground beef with a fat content of 80/20. This ensures the burgers remain moist and flavorful.
Adding Extra Flavor
For added flavor, consider mixing in a tablespoon of your favorite BBQ sauce or a teaspoon of smoked paprika into the beef mixture.
Keeping the Burgers Juicy
Avoid pressing down on the patties with a spatula while cooking, as this can squeeze out the juices and make the burgers dry.
Toppings and Variations
Feel free to customize your burgers with additional toppings such as bacon, avocado, sautéed mushrooms, or different types of cheese like Swiss or blue cheese.
Storing Leftovers
Store any leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through.
